Zeikhour small rug from eastern Caucasus,Kuba district,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1870

Size: 2′.11″x2′.3″ (89×69 cm)

The sapphire blue field displays offset rows of half-drop rosettes detailed in green,yellow,rose,ivory and pale purple.At the bottom end are two additional projecting leaves.The single ivory border presents connected leaves,flowers and rosettes in various colors.There is a broken inner and solid outer red line.At one end are the remains of the original knotted finish.The small format is particularly unusual.The colors are well saturated and the handle is soft and pliable.There is a fuchsin color present which sets the date.The rug is dirty and needs some attention but has enough pile to enjoy.Original ends and sides are present.SOLD
