Tree of Life Kazak rug from Armenia,southwest Caucasus

Age: circa 1880

Measurements: 7′.10"x6′.1" (239×185 cm)

This attractive and rare kazak rug has two columns of green and ivory trees flanking a central axis with four complete ivory octagons,all on a warm madder ground.At each end of the field is a row of colorful botehs.More botehs along with stylized animals,flowers and rosettes are present in the field.Additionally,there is a fractional ivory medallion in the center of the rug.The green main border is patterned with colorful thick cruciform elements.There are four minor borders all in sawtooth reciprocal motifs:Brown and white,blue and red.The colors are from natural sources.The rug has been walked on but the condition is quite good for its age.SOLD
