Talish prayer rug from southern Caucasus

Age: circa 1870

Dimensions: 5′.1"x3′.4" (155×102 cm)

The old ivory field displays a lozenge lattice containing a multitude of colorful flowers and other smaller geometric devices,under a broad free floating pointed navy niche arch.The spandrels are en suite with the field.The royal blue main border has a bold geometric S pattern.In each S is a short bar displaying diagonal stripes.The mosaic design inner and outer borders are particularly attractive with a wide range of colors.At each end is a soumak technique finish:lower,dark blue,upper,natural tan.All the colors are from natural and vegetable sources.The rug is particularly thick and meaty,the handle is pliable and the condition is good.SOLD
