Soumak flatwoven rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1885

Size: 7′.6"x5′.0" (229×152 cm)

The gently abrashed red field displays three iconic Soumak medallions in various shades of blue with octagon centers.There are eight yellow octagonal geometric boxes,rocket ship devices,and stylized flowers along the sides of the field.The dark brown border features nested lozenges,multicolor angular S’s and ram’s horn elements.The ivory minor borders show a small star pattern and the outer has two tone running dog reciprocal in dark brown and red.There are four barber pole lines and a narrow keyhole reciprocal at the outer edges of the red field.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
