Soumak carpet from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 8′.1"x6′.10" (246×208 cm)

This room size Caucasian Soumak weaving employs three flattened dark blue octagon medallions all decorated with red,yellow and green S’s and centered by red octagram cartouches.There are eight secondary rectangular yellow forms and a mix of S’s,boxes,octagons,knots,animals,humans,lazy S’s and other smaller elements,.Around the inner edge of the field is a running hook pattern.The dark brown main border shows a kilim pattern of colorful octagons in various colors.The flanking ivory borders host doubly connected stars while there are three colorful dotted lines.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
