Shirvan rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1875

Size: 7′.0″x3′.5″ (213×104 cm)

The navy field displays six varied palmettes in ivory,red,green and yellow.Along the sides of the field are stars,rosettes,leaves and diamonds.At each side of the center are columns of tiny botehs.The ivory main border is decorated with colorful floating ashiks with filler triangles in various colors.The dark brown minor borders display carnations.The tertiary ivory ground borders both feature barred S’s.The wool is extremely soft and there is a white cotton plainweave finish at each end.The handle is soft and plush.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
