Shirvan prayer rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1890

Size: 4′.11"x3′.3" (150×99 cm)

The tricolor field is diagonally striped in ivory,red and dark blue with small double volute rectangles.The pattern continues through the spandrels.The doubly serrated and pointed niche arch has an internal rosette-octagon design.The ivory main border displays chains of stepped crosses in natural camel hair,red,blue,ivory with colorful connector triangles.There is an inner keyhole reciprocal and an outer guard with geometric rosettes,and three black and white barber pole lines.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good condition except for the four corners and the sides.SOLD
