Shirvan prayer rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: dated 1328=1910 Christian date

Measurements: 5′.4"x3′.0" (163×91 cm)

This extremely unusual dated prayer rug displays an ivory field containing a scattering of variously colored mobil botehs,a floating sawtooth edged niche arch under which is a date panel,and double botehs in the spandrels.Beneath the date panel is an open framework centered by a quincunx.The madder red main border employs a Z and stepped diamond alternation while the matching guard stripes utilize a colorful triangle pattern.There are three barber pole lines present.The weave is particularly unusual with the red wefts.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition of the rug is good.
