Shirvan rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1302=1884 Christian date

Dimensions: 6′.9"x3′.11" (206×119 cm)

The ivory field displays a hexagonal sawtooth lattice enclosing a wide variety of colorful stylized flowers and other geometric devices,including a small animal,rosettes,and a date at the top left corner.There are six patterned borders including an innermost quincunx,two reciprocal keyhole stripes (the outer one with camel color),a red multicolor S border which is flanked by a larger stepped cross pattern band and a narrower with stepped crosses and dots.There is a blue animal and a black comb at the bottom left corner of the red border.There are five two tone barber pole lines present.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in very good condition.
