Shirvan prayer rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: circa 1870

Measurements: 5′.9"x3′.5" (175×104 cm)

The ivory field has a spaciously drawn dark blue sawtooth lattice enclosing well delineated flowers.In addition there are tiny geometric multicolor lozenges,stepped crosses and other devices.The floating nich arch in dark blue is patterned with multicolored diagonal dashes.The field pattern continues in reduced form in the spandrels and there are further tiny geometric elements.The red main border has a classic Caucasian chalice and diagonal leaf pattern and is flanked by dark blue minor borders with variegated rosettes.There are three barber pole guard stripes,one quincunx line and an innermost red and blue keyhole reciprocal.The wool quality is superb.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition is very good.SOLD
