Shirvan prayer rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: dated 1312 =1894 Christian date

Measurements: 5′.4"x3′.4" (163×102 cm)

The field of this rug differs from most Shirvan prayer rugs in its strongly stylized geometric lattice and particularly high placement of the mihrab arch.There are jewel-like motifs,combs,boxes,a date and other interesting devices in the spandrels.The classic Caucasian madder main border is filled with multicolor motifs and is flanked by red and blue and blue and black keyhole reciprocals.There are four barber pole narrow lines present.The colors are crystal clear and all from natural sources.The condition of the rug is good including the original ends and sides.SOLD
