Shirvan prayer rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: circa 1875

Measurements: 4′.11"x3′.11" ( 150×119 cm)

The ivory field is ornamented with an iconic hexagonal lattice displaying a wide variety of stylized flowers and the pattern continues into the spandrels.The wide arch and the interior edge of the field have sawtooth patterns.The red main border has a popular East Caucasian stylized "S" design.The inner and outer dark brown minor guards employ colorful stepped crosses.The other minor border is attractively abrashed from lime green to medium blue.The rug is in a square format.All the colors are from natural sources.The pile is evenly low and the selvages are replaced.SOLD
