Shirvan rug with Karagashli design from eastern Caucasus

Age: circa 1880

Measurements: 6′.6"x3′.8" (198×112 cm)

The navy field displays the characteristic Karagashli pattern of three hexagons each with an outer stepped box edge.At the end of the pole medallion are red sunbursts containing leafy projections.The field also contains ivory crosses,stylized palmettes and a few small animals.The deep gold main border has the classic Caucasian slant leaf and chalice design and is flanked by similar guards each in a stylized rosette pattern.The innermost and outermost ivory guards have a geometric multicolor "S" pattern.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in excellent condition.SOLD
