Shahsavan sofreh (238) – SOLD

3' 7" x 3' 1" (109 x 94 cm)

Shahsavan soumak sofreh from north west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1860

Size: 3′.7″x3′.1″ (109×94 cm)

The navy field displays a 2×2 Memling Gul pattern with one column grounded in ivory and the other in red.A thin barber pole line horizontally divides the field and there are many small four legged animals, stars and combs. The ivory main border features a flattened hexagon pattern in which there are eight point stars and doubled dividing small H’s.Barber pole lines surround both the field and the ends.At each end is a broad flatwoven panel in dark brown and light purple. All the colors are from natural sources. The white is cotton and the rest is wool. This was a pair of Shahsavan soumak bags but looks like they were cut and joint and made a square piece out of the pair.It doesn’t lose much from its value because what counts is the quality and beauty.Just enjoy the piece it is beautiful.SOLD
