Pair of Shahsavan saddle bags from Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1870

Size: 1′.10"x1′.10" and 1′.11"x1′.8"  (56×56 cm) and (58×51 cm) without the kilim ends

In matching style,each bagface displays three broad horizontal bands decorated each with three nested stepped crosses.There are four minor dividing borders in similar but reduced scale.In addition there is an abrashed blue and black main border and two black and white checkerboard guards.The backs are of mixed red and blue plain weave and display two multicolor animals in soumak technique along with various other motifs.The multicolor closure tabs and braided loops are intact.All the colors are from natural sources.The two pieces are in good condition including the original backs.SOLD
