Shahsavan soumak bag from north west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1890

Size: 1′.11″x1′.7″ ( 58×48 cm)

The navy field shows a 2-1-2 pattern of footed ivory diamonds enclosing red,blue and yellow stepped and pointed elements.In addition,there are horned triangular fillers,red quincunxes and other smaller elements.The red main border employs ashiks within hexagons in blue,green,yellow,brown,red,navy and ivory.The flanking minor borders both show diamond chains on color patterned grounds.At the top end the colorful closure tabs are intact while at the bottom is a wide multicolor striped panel.The weave is fine,the handle is pliable and all the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
