Shahsavan soumak bag from north west Persia (Iran)

Size: 2′.0″x1′.11″ (61×58 cm)

This tightly woven soumak saddle bag shows a pattern of broad and narrow diagonals in red,blue,navy,green,ivory,brown,burgundy,brick and straw (faded fuchsin).Dividing the major stripes are smaller bands in dark brown and ivory angular meanders.The red main border displays a geometric S motif in various colors while the slit closure panel features stylized stars.At the end of the piece is a yellow ground angular ribbon design which is matched by the inner border.There is a keyhole reciprocal outer border present as well as two narrow barber pole lines in the border system.The colors are soft and warm.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
