Qashqai rug from south west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1885

Size: 6′.1″x3′.1″ (185×94 cm)

The tomato red field shows a broken lattice design defined by an ivory trellis sprouting a uniform herringbone design.The reserves enclose reversing botehs.Secondary motifs include:tribal animals,octagons,diamonds,tiny crosses and dots.The red main border employs a seriated zig zag along the sides,and a ribbon meander at each end enclosing small crosses.The wide inner ivory border features paired lozenges on a colorful ground.At each end the ivory border changes to floating boxes with diamonds.In addition there is a multicolor striped secondary border and a bitonal barber pole in the border system.At each end is a flatwoven strip decorated in weft float.The selvedges feature the characteristic Fars province round,two tone cords.The weave is fine and the surface is velvety.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
