Qashqai rug from south west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1880

Size: 6′.7″x5′.3″ (201×160 cm)

This unusually square large rug features color diagonals of reversing botehs on a navy ground,detailed in ivory,burgundy,yellow,shades of red,green,shades of blue,chocolate and dark brown.There are numerous small elements including animals,rosettes,diamonds,octagons,stars,triangles and hooked motifs.The attractive diagonally color striped main border is an Afshar characteristic while,the checkerboard end panels are in the Qashqai manner.The ivory minor borders show colorful flanking rosettes.There are four reciprocal triangles in blue,red,green and dark brown.The wool is exceptionally soft and tactile.The weave is fine and the handle is soft and pliable.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good condition with high pile and original ends and sides.SOLD
