Qashqai Shakarlou rug from south west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1870

Size: 6′.4"x5′.3" (193×160 cm)

The rare pattern of wider and narrower vertical stripes alternate boteh field bands and narrower ribbon patterned lines.Red,ivory,blue,green and yellow are the important colors.The characteristic ivory Shakarlou border shows chaines of octagons enclosing hooked lozenges with extremely stylized double flower forms in between.There are two flanking S-in-hexagon minor borders and three complete barber pole lines along with one that colorfully breaks up on one side,an irregularity sought after by connoisseurs.At each end is a wide cicim technique flatwoven band in red and white and blue and brown.The wool is extremelly soft and velvety.The selvedges are wrapped in red and yellow and red and green in Qashqai style.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
