Qashqai rug from south west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1890

Size: 6′.10″x4′.3″ (208×130 cm)

The warm red field shows an ivory flower filled diamond medallion surrounded by conforming rose of rosettes alternating with fish leaves.The fish leaves are connected,bitonal and display small eyes.At each corner is a nested petal rosette and there are lesser rosettes scattered about.The dark chocolate brown main border displays palmettes,brackets and stylized twisted leaves.There are two flanking ivory ground minor borders with meander and rosette patterns.At one end is a characteristic dark brown and ivory checkerboard stripe while a biatonal barber pole line surrounds the other three sides.There are several plain lines in the border system.The handle is soft and the weave is compact.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition of the rug is good.SOLD
