Qashqai bag from south west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1890

Dimensions: 2′.4″x2′.4″ (71X71 cm)

The medium dark blue field displays the classic Qashqai red stepped medallion fringed with ivory latch hooks and is centered by an ivory knot medallion.There is a multitude of quartered small octagons,and other geometric devices,along with light blue and green hooked lozenges in the corners.The ivory main border is ornamented by a geometric undulating vine.There are reciprocal minor borders:A narrow yellow and burgundy inner and a wider red and green outer stripe.The slit soumak closure strip is intact with a weft float checkerboard above and a similar checkerboard in pile below.At the base is another checkerboard weft float band followed by a kilim panel with colorful stripes.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition of the piece is good.SOLD
