Qashqai bag from south west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1880

Measurements: 3′.7"x2′.0" (109×61 cm) including the flatwoven kilim 

The navy blue field is centered by an ivory/hooked red lozenge medallion:Around the light blue volute rosette are four small medallions and stylized palmettes.In the corners of the field are four blue hooked lozenges and a scatter fill of geometric elements.The ivory main border displays an angular undulating vine and is flanked by an inner barber pole line and a light blue stylized boteh pattern outer band.The closure finish is intact with square braided two tone loops,and there are soumak technique panels with connected S motifs flanked by classic Qashqai checkerboard borders.The plain weave back is striped in red,green,yellow,blue and burgundy.All the colors are from natural sources.The wool is velvety and the condition is very good.SOLD
