Perepedil rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1323=1905

Size: 5′.9"x3′.11" (175×119 cm)

The dark blue ground displays the classic allover Perepedil design of ram’s horns,octagons,dragons,and swords bearing volutes,and a scattering of smaller rosettes,combs,and other interesting elements.The rug is dated twice 1323 which is 1905.The dark blue main border shows an ivory Kufesque repeat flanked by multicolor striped panelled minor borders,an innermost ivory guard with polychrome stars and finally an outermost red and green keyhole reciprocal.There is a minor original weaving interruption in one corner of the border system,sought after by connoisseurs.There are nine bitonal barber pole lines.At each end is an ivory cotton plainweave followed by a macrame finishing.All the colors are from natural sources.The handle is soft and pliable.The rug is in good condition.
