Perepedil rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 7′.1"x4′.5" (216×135 cm)

This particularly large eastern Caucasian scatter rug shows the classic navy field with repeating pattern of ram’s horns,stylized dragons,rosettes,snowflakes,stars,palmettes,and little octagons.The navy border hosts a classic ivory Kufesque pattern.Two minor borders show repeating colorful stars on ivory and red while there are two additional sectioned striped minor borders.There are two bitonal keyhole reciprocal borders and eight red and white narrow barber pole lines in the border system.The weave is tight and the handle is crisp.The selvedges are wrapped in light blue and at each end is an ivory kilim followed by a knotted warp net.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good condition.
