Milas prayer rug from south west Anatolia (Turkey)

Size: 5′.2"x4′.1" (157×124 cm)

The red pinched sub-field shows a multiple rosette,flowering stems and a star pattern.The surrounding old ivory field displays four stylized palmettes,a rosette,stems and other motifs in the spandrels.There are nine patterned borders of which:the abrashed yellow to peach main border hosts sectioned aubergine lozenges alternating with four flowers,the ivory outer minor border shows colorful quartered octagons,a stylized strapwork meander dominates the inner border group,the lesser yellow ground inner minors display crosshatches and red and white dots,four tertiary aubergine and red zig zag stripes.There are six bitonal barber pole lines in the border system.At each end is a plainweave soft red finish.The handle is soft and pliable.All the colors are from natural sources.The pile is good and so is the general condition.SOLD
