Lesghi rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1297=1879

Size: 4′.0"x3′.5" (122×104 cm)

Dated and inscribed,this well woven east Caucasian scatter shows three Lesghi stars in ivory,dark blue,red and green on a red and paneled dark blue field.Fringed triangles,diamonds,ashiks,rosettes and other small geometric elements float about.A green serrated pattern surrounds the outer edge of the field.The ivory main border presents a colorful slant leaf and chalice motif and is flanked by multicolor minor borders with small medallions.There are four barber pole lines in the border system.At each end is a light blue soumak finish.All the colors are from natural sources including aubergine.The rug is in good condition except for two vertical old repairs.SOLD
