Lesghi rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1870

Measurements: 6′.0″x3′.0″ (183×91 cm)

Four Lesghi stars in royal blue and ivory,light blue and ivory,and in red and green stand out in relief above a naturally corroded dark brown field,and are closely surrounded by pinwheel rosettes,knots,octagons,stars,birds and numerous other geometric devices.The ivory main border displays the classic Caucasian slant leaf and goblet design and is flanked by keyhole reciprocals in two shades of red and blue.The outer minor border is ivory grounded with a polychrome pattern of small,multicolor,connected diamonds.There are five barber pole lines in red,peach,yellow,blue,green and ivory.The colors are vibrant including the fuchsin which is scattered about.The condition of this charming rug is good.
