Lesghi rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: circa 1880

Measurements: 3′.8"x2′.11" (112×89 cm)

The attractive madder field with three dark blue and ivory Lesghi stars,each centered by an octagon and star motif,has small secondary devices of rosettes,stars and smaller elements.The dark blue border has a very attractive repeating rosette and stylized flower motif in a wide variety of colors.This unusual pattern is directed towards the top of the rug and is flanked by ivory minor borders with eight sectioned boxes.An inner sawtooth and outer barber pole borders are present.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug has a fine and a compact weave.The condition is good.
