Pair of eastern Anatolian cicim bags from Turkey

Age: circa 1890

Size: 1′.9″x1′.9″ (53×53 cm) each

On a dark brown plain weave ground fabric a navy supplementary weft pattern displays rows of hooked ivory diamonds and smooth lesser lozenges.Detail colors include:ivory,green,two shades of blue,yellow and two shades of red.The narrow main borders shows a small red chained lozenge pattern.There are two bitonal barber pole lines in red and white and three plain medium blue lines.The intact backs are flatwoven and striped in red,brown,blue and beige.The braided closure loops are present and the colorful original overcasting of the sides remains.All the colors are from natural sources.Both pieces are in good condition.
