Kuba rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1880

Size: 4′.3″x3′.2″ (130×97 cm)

Usually in larger format,this attractive Kuba scatter with a navy field displays snowflake stars in red,blue,ivory,yellow,green and light aubergine,creating a general diagonal effect.There are a few lazy S’s and rosettes in the field.The red main border shows colorful stars in octagons,while the two minor borders,both display reversing abrashed carnations in blue,black,ivory,and yellow.There are four red and white narrow barber pole lines in the border system.At each end is a narrow flat woven beige band in good condition followed by the remnants of a knotted warp net.All the colors are from natural sources.The handle is soft and pliable.The piece is in good condition except for a few tiny bites.SOLD
