Dated Kuba rug with inscription from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1299=1881

Size: 4′.6"x4′.0" (137×122 cm)

The abrashed royal blue field displays an ivory connected lozenge pole medallion flanked by stars and octagons.At the top end of the field is an inscription and date panel.The green ground Kufic main border has an especially detailed ivory repeat.The strongly abrashed red and rose inner border is stepped at one end;an effect particularly desirable among connoisseurs.There is a diagonally striped and panelled outer border and a keyhole reciprocal minor border.There are several solid lines in the border system.At the ends are remains of knotted warp nets.The unusually square format is particularly attractive.Kilim technique dark blue selvedges are intact.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good condition.
