This is an unusually small Kuba rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: circa 1870

Measurements: 4′.1″x2′.6″ (124×76 cm)

The deep red field is closely covered by six flattened lozenge medallions alternating in green and navy.Among numerous secondary field elements are snowflakes,stylized flowers,pinwheel rosettes,crosshatches and birds.The border has a pattern originally found on soumak rugs of stepped octagons and quadruple V shape dividers.The outer colorful carnation border is well known in East Caucasian weavings and the inner navy guard mixes crosses and tiny octagons.All the colors are from natural sources.This charming small rug is in good condition.SOLD
