Kuba rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: dated 1291 =1873 Christian date

Measurements: 4′.4"x3′.7" (132×109 cm)

This iconic Kuba with a dark blue field displays four hooked lozenge medallions alternating in ivory and green.Separating the medallions are bands of hooked diamonds and there are colorful cruciform knots along with lesser geometric devices.There are four dates in the field.The broad ivory main border has a pattern of interlocking wedges.The outermost guard has a polychrome stripe and a basket weave pattern while the inner medium blue minor is ornamented with rosettes.Additionally there are four two tone barber pole lines and two quincunx narrow lines.At each end is a narrow red and blue soumak line,followed by a blue kilim strip and a warp knotted net.All the colors are from natural sources including the camel hair.The condition of this charming rug is very good.SOLD
