Konagkend rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 4′.9"x4′.4" (145×132 cm)

The abrashed dark blue field shows an allover pattern of stepped colorful medallions in shades of dark brown,shades of blue,shades of red,shades of green,shades of yellow and ivory.Each medallion is conforming a sub medallion sprouting small florets.In addition there are lazy S’s,rosettes,lozenges,X’s and other interesting small elements.The green ground Kufic design main border features ivory rosettes and brackets and is flanked by yellow minor borders with connected hexagons in various colors.There are four narrow barber pole lines in the border system.At each end is a narrow beige flatwoven band followed by partial knotted nets.The handle is soft and pliable and the weave is fine.This square format is relatively rare.All the colors are from natural sources including the rare and beautiful aubergine.The condition of this collectable rug is good.SOLD
