Khamseh carpet from south west Persia (Iran)

Size: 8′.4"x5′.1" (254×155 cm)

The red subfield is centered by a green and blue three panel pole medallion with square volute finials.There are numerous bird and animal figures in a wide variety of shapes,colors and patterns.In addition there are small cypresses,stylized flowers,and geometric elements.The encompassing field is diagonally striped in navy and ivory in imitation of Persian textiles.The yellow main border features geometric figures and is flanked by medium blue rosette design minor borders,and there is an identical ivory outer band.There are quincunx,barber pole and reciprocal guard lines in the border system.At the lower end is a green,blue,red and brown band while at the top is a blue and ivory chain technique finish.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good condition.
