Karatchoph double prayer Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus

This exceptionally wide example shows a characteristic dotted double niche pattern enclosing a central nested red and ivory cartouche,two red notched medallions and two ivory rectangles enclosing doubly hooked bars.The field fill is exceptionally imaginative with numerous geometric animals,rosettes,octagons,hooked triangles,stylized flowers,quincunxes,rectangles and other interesting elements.At each corner is an octagon enclosing a hooked diamond.Two of the hooked triangles display bitonal checkerboard patterns.The ivory main border employs an unusual double facing motifs in various colors.The flanking minor borders show red and blue keyhole patterns and there are four barber pole lines in the border system.The colors are crystal clear and all from natural sources including a fantastic aubergine.The handle is pliable and the weave is fine.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
