Karatchoph double prayer Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus

Age: circa 1885

Measurements: 8′.6"x4′.3" (259×130 cm)

This classic Karatchoph long rug has a green field with a checkerboard patterned angular prayer arch at each end of the field.There are two ivory boxes enclosing smaller hooked rectangles and a similar one in red.In addition there are two red geometric cartouches,two ivory panels with stars and numerous other smaller squares containing colorful hooked devices.The ivory main border has a discreet pattern of small hooked panels and is flanked by four barber pole guards and two red and blue reciprocals.All the colors are from natural and vegetable sources.The wool is soft and shiny.The rug is in very good condition.SOLD
