Karatchoph Kazak rug from Armenia,southwest Caucasus

The tomato red field displays the characteristic Karatchoph design of an ivory octagonal medallion with inner red octagonal submedallion decorated with hooks,between smaller beveled rectangles,with triangular completions in small dotted red and blue patterns.There are four star filled ivory boxes as well as green third-order panels and dark blue boxes enclosing yellow hooked motifs.In addition there are smaller octagons,hooked elements,diamonds and tabbed squares.The royal blue main border alternates slanted leaf with rectangular motifs in various colors.There are two keyhole reciprocals in ivory and dark brown and three bitonal barber pole lines.The selvedges are widely banded in pile colors.The handle is soft and pliable.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
