Karagashli rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

The dark blue ground displays the characteristic Karagashli pattern of three paired red pointed ellipses,each with a blue central rosette with ivory stars.Extending from the red ellipses are forked goosenecks,and in the field are:snowflakes,rosettes,octagons,small animals,human figures,rectangles,combs, and two date panels.The abrashed red main border features a slanted leaf and chalice pattern with yellow combs in two corners.There is a colorful rosette chain on a dark brown ground as a minor border along with two ivory guard stripes with barred S’s.There is one red and white barber pole line and several solid lines in the border system.The handle is flexible and the weave is finely compact.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
