Karagashli rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: dated 1291=1873 Christian date

Measurements: 7′.4"x3′.9" (224×114 cm)

The navy field employs the characteristic Karagashli pattern of a pole medallion of three hexagonal panels each with an ivory dentate fringe and centering light blue and gold inner hexagons.At each end of the medallion are red sunburst cartouches.Eight pointed ivory stars,small octagons and rosettes are present in the field.The old gold main border is patterned with triangles and animal heads in numerous attractive colors.The minor borders employ colorful rosettes and in the case of the outer border additional light blue and red triangles.The ivory outermost border has a stylized "S" pattern.The colors are from natural sources.The weave is fine and tight.The condition is very good including the sides and knotted ends.SOLD
