Karadagh rug (73) – SOLD

6' 6" x 4' 11" (198 x 150 cm)

Karadagh rug from north west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1880

Measurements: 6′.6"x4′.11" (198×150 cm)

The navy field has six large bold devices:two medium blue eight pointed Karadja type medallions and four geometric palmettes with hooks surrounds in ivory and medium red.The barber pole stripes and red and navy small boxes of the ivory hooked medallions add additional charm to the rug. There are a number of botehs and additional small palmettes filling the field. The dark red main border has a classic pattern of rosettes and sawtooth diagonal leaves. The inner and outer ivory secondary borders employ a vine of multicolor stars and diagonal bars.Unusual for this group, the rug is in square format rather than in runner shape. The wool is soft and so is the handle. The colors are from natural sources including the light blue and camel. The condition is very good.SOLD
