Gendje rug from southern Caucasus

Age: circa 1875

Size: 4′.7″x3′.2″ (140×97 cm)

The field is diagonally striped in navy,ecru,several attractively abrashed reds and yellows.The stripes are uniformly patterned with small three blossom flowers.The ivory main border shows sharply serrated slanted leaves and chalices.The innermost border has a quincunx design and the outer red minor border shows a reversing disjoint multicolor S pattern.There are three bitonal barber pole lines.The selvedges are perfectly presented and at both ends are rose narrow flat woven bands followed by a macrame finish.The weave is fine and the handle is pliable.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
