Gendje rug (155)

8' 7" x 3' 8" (262 x 112 cm)

Gendje long rug from southern Caucasus

Age: circa 1880

Dimensions: 8′.7"x3′.8" (262×112 cm)

Unlike many Gendje rugs, this piece does not have a dominant yellow, but the dynamic diagonal stripe array is preserved, this time in ivory and navy blue. The precise field seems to lie beneath the borders, highlighted by a green outer stripe and a slightly wider red main band with simple rosettes. The lazy "S" field pattern derives from brocaded Persian textiles. The high pile combines with a soft texture to give a strong tactile effect. The wool is soft and the handle is pliable. All the colors are from natural sources.Condition is good with all sides and ends original.

THROUGH OUR EFFORTS TO PROVIDE THE HIGHEST QUALITY IMAGES, WE USE VERY HIGH RESOLUTION PHOTOS. IF YOU CANNOT SEE THE WHOLE RUG PLEASE TRY REFRESHING THE PAGE – SOME LONG RUGS MAY NOT FIT WITHOUT ZOOMING.
