Gabbeh rug from southwest Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1910

Size: 4′.1″x2′.8″ (124×81 cm)

The navy ground is centered by an extended two section red pole medallion,with stepped edge and projecting arrowhead finialed branches.Along the sides are matching half poles.In the reserves are pinwheel rosettes,octagon stars,botehs and other interesting elements.Secondary colors include:light orange,ecru,blue and chocolate.The major ivory border shows a zigzag pattern defined by color striped facing triangles.The red inner border hosts boxes containing dots and quincunxes in several colors.There is a narrow red and green barber pole surrounding the whole.The blue and black minor border adds charm to the rug.At the top end is a striped flatwoven finish ending in knotted warps.All the colors are from natural sources.The handle is soft,pliable and meaty.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
