Fragment (150)

0' 7" x 0' 4" (18 x 10 cm)

Trans-Caucasian fragment

Age: circa 1780

Dimensions: 7"x4" (18×10 cm)

Although tentatively attributed to Transcaucasia this delightful little fragment is something of a puzzle. The warp and weft are both silk, the weave is extremely fine, the wool pile is clipped short and the handle is extremely flexible. The red field displays a snipped of what appears to be a blue geometric arabesque pattern with floral elements. All the colors are from natural sources. The condition of the fragment is good.
