Fachralo prayer Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus

Age: dated 1299=1882

Size: 5′.1″x3′.4″ (155×102 cm)

The saturated madder red field displays a pole medallion of two medium blue cartouches and a hooked and nested central diamond in red,green and yellow.The central motif is bounded by an ivory band with a stepped and notched pattern.Above the top mihrab style cartouche are two dates,and around are stars,lazy S’s,boxes and hooked diamonds.The old ivory main border shows the classic Caucasian slanted leaf and chalice design in medium blue,red,yellow and green.There are two serrated bitonal minor borders in medium blue and yellow on three sides and in red and blue on the other.There are four barber pole lines in the border system.The wide selvedges are wrapped in light rose as expected.The handle is soft and pliable.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good condition.SOLD
