Fachralo prayer Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus

The ivory niche field is displaced towards the top end and encloses a green and red cartouche medallions.At each side of the medallions and continuing into the niche arch are arrowhead chains.Beneath the cartouches are hooked lozenges and squares.The main rich red field shows small rosettes,hooked ashiks,blue crab like motifs,two ivory boxes on either side of the mihrab with illegible dates and a red and navy hooked cartouche.The straw yellow main border employs an undulating plain meander and ram’s horn extensions.There are two triangle reciprocal minor borders in blue and light brown and four red and white barber pole lines.The weave is fine for a Kazak and the handle is extremely pliable.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition of the piece is good.
