Fachralo prayer Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus

Age: circa 1870

Size: 4′.3″x3′.2″ (130×97 cm)

The tomato red field features three hooked color sampler diamonds and lesser and smaller hooked diamonds,stars and lazy S’s.The red spandrels display similar stars and tiny elements.Around the prayer field is an ivory grounded arrowhead chain except at the very apex of the mihrab.The classic ivory Fachralo main border is fully decorated with serrated leaves in navy,green,red and yellow.It is flanked by navy minor borders with small diamond designs.There are several solid lines in the border system.At the top end there are segments of the green plain weave hemmed under.The rug has a soft and pliable handle.The weave is fine and the colors are from natural sources.The condition of the rug is good.
