Eagle Kazak rug,or Chelaberd Kazak from southwest Caucasus

The red field displays a central eagle medallion in ivory with a dark blue cruciform center and radially projecting florets.At each end of the field are half octagonal motifs in red,ivory,yellow,blue and dark brown.At the sides of the field are four hooked triangles.Usually,besides the bigger motifs the field is decorated with smaller ones such as rosettes,diamonds,dots etc unlike in this example,an irregularity sought after by connoisseurs.The ivory main border shows double connected stars in red,navy and blue.There are two minor borders with reciprocal triangle pattern in blue and dark brown.There are four yellow and red narrow barber pole lines in the border system.At each end is a warp weave band.All the colors are from natural sources.The handle is meaty and chunky and the wool is soft.The condition of this beautiful rug is good.
